ABOUT

Our mission is to empower organisations to manage their environmental impacts for a just and sustainable world.

OUR STORY

The demand for an easier and more cost-effective way to carbon footprint an organisation was identified by Will Richardson and Emma Littlewood at Green Element, a successful Environmental Management Consultancy set up by Will in 2004. Over the years they noticed that many organisations would love to be greener but were held back by the time and financial barriers.

In 2017, they used over 20 years of sustainability experience to develop Compare Your Footprint to semi-automate the carbon footprint process using a comprehensive software platform. Since the launch of Compare Your Footprint, the team has been able to significantly reduce the cost of carbon emissions assessment and help organisations of all sizes and industries to get started on their environmental journey.

We are proud to be a certified B Corporation as part of Green Element Group, consisting of Green Element, Compare Your Footprint and Sustainability Solved Resource Hub and Podcast.

OUR VALUES

INTEGRITY

Integrity and strong moral principles are ingrained in every aspect of our work and culture. We wholeheartedly believe these are essential pillars for building trust, whether within our organisation or in our interactions with clients, partners, and the broader world. As part of our unwavering commitment to the B Corporation movement, we strive to offer a clear, comprehensive, and honest view of our company’s impact. Our annual Impact Report explores five key categories: Governance, Clients, Team, and Environment. In each area we showcase both our achievements and where we aspire to improve. We also voluntarily make public our B Impact Assessment. To support our strong moral principles, we have developed a Client Selection Policy to ensure we only work with organisations that are aligned to climate and social justice.

SCIENCE-BASED CLIMATE ACTION

Our mission is to empower organisations to reduce their environmental impacts for a just and sustainable world. To achieve this, we follow a clear principle: the path to making a genuine impact in the battle against the climate crisis lies in science-based action. Our entire organisation is built on this foundation of science-based climate action. This means that every service, every piece of advice, and every partnership we offer is firmly rooted in climate science. We provide practical, evidence-based, and factually sound recommendations to any organisation we meet. We help organisations set science-based targets; sustainability targets for organisations rooted in the best available climate science. These targets are carefully designed to align with the requirements set out in international climate agreements. This ensures that the efforts of these organisations will genuinely have an impact on the world, free from any greenwashing or false claims.

PRACTISE WHAT WE PREACH

We understand how vital it is for an organisation offering sustainability services to ‘walk-the-talk’. This is why we work hard to follow best environmental, social and governance practice. We have set science-based net-zero targets verified by the Science Based Targets initiative and are held accountable by our B Corporation certification and membership to the likes of Business Declares. We are transparent about our successes and failures by actively promoting them far and wide. For example, we were one of the first B Corps to publish our completed B Impact Assessment on our websites and across social media. We hope this inspires our clients to follow suit and not be afraid of presenting the truth to their own stakeholders.

ADAPT AND EDUCATE

We use our skills to collaborate, educate and question the way our industry approaches climate action. We adapt and innovate our products and services to offer best environmental practice and guidance to our partners, employees and the wider community. We are not a transactional company. Instead, we form long-standing partnerships and collaborations, including our so-called ‘competitors’, to help meet the collective goal to reduce global temperatures by implementing real climate action. We do this by becoming voluntary members and advisors to organisations and movements on a mission to influence industry and government to act on climate and nature and improve carbon reporting standards globally.
